I don't usually ride either of the GFRs for longer than a 20 minute session at Cadwell or a short run to the 'Greasy Spoon. GFR#2 (the ex Pat sprostron bike) sailed through this year's MoT with a new chain and sprockets. The advisory on wheel bearings last year turned out to be that the big nut that secures the 'dummy' spindle to the eccentric drum (for chain adjustment) in the swing arm was only finger tight.
A good job the last person to remove it (not me) at least replaced the split pin!
Yesterday, however, I rode it to Donington Park to point and laugh at some pals doing a track day. It was going very well and on a road I won't mention I gave it its head through the gears to find it went a bit flat before the red line. It's on standard gearing so that's to be expected in 6th, but it seemed to run out of puff early in the lower gears.
Could be the ignition a gnat's cock off from when I had to have the stator rewound or it might be running a bit rich as it was still a reasonably warm day on the way back. A clean air filter might be a good place to start I suppose.
I can report that ridden in a spirited manner the range on a full tank before going on to reserve is only 60 miles. This nearly caught me out but fortunately it went out within a few miles of a petrol station. I always reset the trip meter after filling up but I'd forgotten how thirsty it is, with a lower range than even the tuned Morini.
I'll be taking it to the Morini Riders Club Cadwell do in July so it would be nice to get it singing really well for then. The Morini has almost had the flat spot tuned out by raising the needles. Just I've got to resolve the ground clearance issue from the 350 2:1 exhaust system nailed on to a 350 motor in a 250 frame.
