I may be talking out of my "other end" but I seem to recall somewhere that Gilera started reducing the power of their 125 two-strokes as it was getting into a session of the young Italians would buy whichever bike was the quickest at that time. To me it makes no sense to deliberately reduce power if the sale of the bike depended on it being quicker. Maybe something was lost in translation, or maybe there was some technical reason, but I'm sure it was done for a reason.

I remember that Paul but I'm sure Gilera were talking like that to promote the CX as it has the same engine as the Crono but in a softer state of tune, max power 21PW @ 10500 rpm.
Anyway if they were serious about lowering the power outputs they would have used the CX engine in the GFR and wouldn't have messed about with the revised porting and carb changes etc. As John says they didn't do all that to go slow it down.

Thanks Leigh, I think you're spot on and was probably talking about the CX.

Memory not quite what it used to be, but at least I remembered a bit even if it was for the wrong model.

I'll go and stand in the corner for an hour or so.

PS don't tell Kano or he'll never stop laughing.
