Hi,I have small air bubbles coming up from the oil pump to the carb, but have renewed the pipe and fixed the pipe to the pump with zip ties. The pump also seems to be leaking, therefore can you just take the oil pump out to renew the gasket, or is there any other places it can grab air??. ;)
Any thoughts would be helpful.
Thanks
Maksei.

Hi Maksei,

The pump comes off easily and I'm pretty sure it can be split and a new gasket fitted although I've never had one that leaked or gave a problem!
I'll assume that the feed line from the oil tank and the pump have been completely bled?

I have had an occasion recently where after a rebuild an air bubble got 'stuck' in the line from the pump to the carb! Riding the bike didn't push the air bubble out!! Strange because in theory the air free oil from the pump should push the air through the line and out through the carb.
In the end I shifted it by removing the spark plug, connecting a car battery with jump leads, holding the the throttle full open (to give the pump max displacement) and spinning the engine until I could see that the air had been expelled out through the carb!

What's the mileage of your SP01?

Hi Leigh,The pipe from the tank to pump is air free, unlike your bubble I have bubble following bubble up from the oil pump.I bleed the pump and on tick over had no bubbles, but on riding it at only 4000revs max (as I am running in piston and barrel)it produces air bubbles.
The pump also has a leak.I will take the pump out and see whats going on,as you say it comes easy. The bike has done 19,000km. Thanks

Hi,Leigh,I think I have got it!.When i first got bubbles I thought it was the new pipe I had fitted from oil union to carb,so I put two very small zip ties round the pipe to fasten it. I fitted a new seal at the back of the pump which has stopped the oil leak, so far so good. :cheer:
Still bubbles!!. :S Pipe was twisting on the union,so cut off zip ties to replace with new ones, thought try without zips.BINGO :cheer: looks like the zips were pulling the pipe into a shape and pulling the pipe off the union, hence letting air in. The pipe is a Gilera part from Bob Wright and not one from the local bike shop,it obviously fits ok.Lets hope this fixes it.
