Hi John,
As you know I had a problem with the front brake master cylinder piston sticking in the bore on my Apache, well the Apache uses an 11mm piston. I'll bet it's the same front master cylinder fitted to both bikes! (I know for a fact that the rear brake master cylinder and caliper are exactly the same on RC600 and Apache).

Anyway I have just found a master cylinder overhaul kit for a Montesa fitted with a Grimeca master cylinder using an 11mm piston. The piston and seals in the overhaul kit are exactly the same as that fitted in the Apache. Only difference I can see is that the spring is slightly longer on the Montesa (or maybe the spring on my Apache has become compressed after being fitted for twenty odd years) and the grommet is very slightly different, but heck it all fits and works!!!!.
Now this overhaul kit for the Montesa has Honda on the bag would you believe? The part number is 4550-NN3-305 and I purchased it from Jim Sandiford who you can e-mail at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Now I need to find overhaul kits or seals for master cylinders using 11.5 mm pistons as I now have the same problem on my Crono's!!!

Well done. When I get a minute I'll add that info to the 'Pattern Parts' page.

Hi All,
I just had a rather frosty reply from Caroline Sandiford saying they only sell genuine Montesa spares :( not good to mention the word Grimeca ;)
I asked her to check the part number as it is a Montesa (owned by Honda) number
Still waiting a reply hope she has mellowed after lunch :)
