Gentlemen, others,

Please excuse my interruption. I hope with my recent ownership of a CX you will forgive my impertinence.

Fortunately I've not found many problems, thus far. The most serious cosmetic challenge is the badly cracked instrument lens.
Currently a new drive chain is needed. There is but 3500K on the bike, but it's easy to imagine how long it must have stood idle. From what I have read there should be a master link. There is not; but that isn't a problem. Is there a suggested chain manufacturer/type/model for the CX, given it is 25 years later?

And, is a replacement air filter available?

TIA for any help you may offer. Good fortune, R3~

R3,
The chain is a 520 series so it a common size. Do an ebay search for Gilera cx125 & there are a couple of sellers of chain & sprocket kits on there.
Air filters are available from P J Motorcycle engineers. The link is below

Thank you. I run a 520 chain w/out O-rings, on the RS125 race bike. My newness to Gilera poses many questions, mostly due to their absence from the US market over the last 40 years.
Thank you for the link. R3~

for the sprocket you can use something from several other 125ccm gileras.
But the chain wheel is something unique.
The CX and the GFR have the same one.
They have some kind of bushings on the rear side. Sometimes they are spot welded, sometimes you get one with extra bushing which have to be fixed with bolts.

If you need a clutch you may search for Newfren.
They have sets with steel plates, friction plates and with both.
The last one has the number F1189AC

ciao joachim

Thank you Joachim.
Very good information to have.

The bike is in nearly amazing shape, all things considered. I found it in Japan! It runs very well.
Altho no promises were made b4 the sale. I found it to have fresh oil in the trans. and injection oil tanx. Coolant looks and smells fresh. Brake fluid is fresh. It looked to be a new spark plug as well.
I pulled the plug to check gap and add a teaspoon of light oil b4 cranking.
It even has a new battery and lit-off right away. I rode and braked with authority. Power Valve works as it should. Clean up is going well, with all the body work off. A few minor cracks in the plastic, need attention.

Switchgear works well, too.

I can locally purchase a toe rubber for the shift lever, but the dust cap over the 30mm rear axle nut is a problem, so far. If one cannot be found I'll make it, logo and all.

I placed an order w/pjme.co 2day.

Thanx again, Joachim & Weed
Good fortune, R3~

You are certainly doing better than me R3. I purchased mine from a guy on the east coast & he had had it in a museum for a couple of years but was supposed to be in very good condition.
When it arrived all was not as it seemed. The switch gear was ordinary at best, the LH fairing was cracked & damaged, the sprockets worn along with the chain, the rear axle spine was twisted as a result of an engine seizure at on stage of its' life, the air box had no air filter in it but a lot of dirt, the instruments didn't work, the throttle, oil pump & clutch cables were bad, the wiring harness in a state of disrepair, no fluids in the radiator, oil tank or gearbox & I haven't got into the motor as yet.
The suspension on both ends needs work as well as both brake systems
It can be sorted out but it will not be the quick tidy up & ride it I thought it was going to be.
It looks as if it was just thrown together an sold out of it's country of origin (where ever that was) to a collector in Australia.
Oh well at least one will be saved from the scrap heap at the end of the day.
If you are going to make a cover for the rear axle not then put me down for one & let me know the cost
Cheers
Weed
