I can only add that it is NOT a copy of a Honda 125 engine, it IS a Honda 125 engine. You could try your local Honda shop as I'm sure they would be able to tell you the exact engine model number. Honda were in close connection with Gilera for a limited amount of time, starting with providing their 125 engine for the Coguar production run. The original idea was for Gilera to then use Honda 4 cyl engines for their proposed assault on the big sports bike market. Sadly it never happened and to my knowledge the only connection remained for the Coguar only. Paul

Hi, I found this forum whilst searching for info on the Coguar, thanks to pppdrives post's on it being a Honda engine. Obviously it would help to know exactly which model, so the search continued.
I have seen it suggested to be a CB, CG or XLR125. As I am quite familiar with CB125's both original & modern I had pretty much ruled that out, & if my memory was right the CG was an overhead valve push rod engine, but I checked anyway & the new models are still OHV push rod, leaving me to checkout the XLR125. There's not much info about on the XLR mainly photo's, but enought to confirm to me that iit is the Honda XLR125 engine fitted in the Coguar, & I would suggest that the wiring loom (should need a replacement be needed) is very similar to that of a pre electric fuel controlled CB/CG125.

One tiny point, it's Cougar nor Coguar! Sorry, I'm just a pedant
