you should also replace both the roller bearings.
In most cases they are the source of all the troubble.
They sometimes get a little water... rust never sleeps :(
Next step is the bearings wear out which ends in some slack. That kills the sealings in the end.
But that's the cheap end.
The even worse version is when the bearings will seize, which blocks the pump, blows the belt and ends up in a big 'head salad'

The event worse version sounds terrible. I think I've caught it just in time. The bearings are terrible and has allowed the impeller to wear the engine casing slightly. I've sourced bearings and a local fabricator is making me a new shaft. I think I'll try the south coast seal company first to see if they can help. Had my Nordy 12 yrs so I guess pump had to give up sometime. Thanks for your input,this forum is a great help.
