the sealings are mechanical sealings from Burgmann which now should have the same dimensions as the original Gilera sealings. The last batch has a slightly bigger width (about 2mm if i remember right)

Peters pumps are different, so this sealings wont fit there.
Years ago i had a discussion with him if it's a good idea to use simple Simmerrings for water pumps. That was what he had planned.
I can not remember what he then build in the end.
But i have one of his pumps in my Nordie , so maybe i soon will find it out.
I didn't hope that :)

ciao Joachim

Interesting as I had fitted one of Peters pumps to my Saturno and recently found it leaking after about 4000km's. I think the seal he uses is bound to fail now I have looked, It really needs a seal like the Original pump. I will pull peters pump apart soon to see if I can fit a ceramic type seal.

looks like there is no Simmerring but a mechanical sealing inside.
At least that's what i have found out.
So i am curious about the pics of your pump which you will send ;)

Burgmann delivered only the counterrrings.
For the rest i will have to wait until March :(

ciao Joachim

Sorry its taken me a while to pull this pump apart.
I'll try to upload photos or provide a link.
Firstly, it seems that the inner most bearing was a loose sliding fit on the shaft, The outer most one was ok. I measured the shaft diameter and it doesn't seem worn much, but I need a micrometer to check it properly ( only have calipers right now)
But turning the inner most bearing by hand, the inner race turns on the shaft.....so the shaft is acting as a bearing surface! Something wrong with tolerances there, should have been a light interference fit I think.
The Seal. Seems to be a double lipped mechanical seal, not particulaly special:angry:
The bearings seem in good order. There is a shim stack of 4 shims between the two bearings.
I'm still not sure where the 1mm of play comes from yet, but there was slight sideways play because of the sloppy fit of the inner bearing.

Argh, I give up trying to add images here..even small image files are " Forbidden" I need to create some online photo storage wank and then I will post a link to it.

Oh, and the most important bit. Where the seal has been rubbing on the shaft, it is highly polished.
This I can measure with the calipers. The diameter is 0.05 mm smaller than overall shaft diameter.
So unless there is a "dip" by design.........then there has been significant wear of the shaft by the seal.......hence the leak!
