Hi, I am trying to identify the cause of a lack of spark on the RC. Have checked every thing apart from the Cdi unit. I have a new ht coil on order and waiting to see if that solves the problem. Out of interest I have just measured the air gap between the rotor magnets and the pickup but cannot find a specified measurement in my manuals. My rotor has two, the one closer to the crank case measures 2.4mm gap approximately, the one closer to the outer edge of the rotor is approximately 1.31mm. There does not appear to be any adjustment on the pickup plate either. Do I assume that these unadjustable gaps are correct or should I modify the plate to close the gaps and in that case to what? Help please

Hi

Page 6-2. In the manual (right hand side of page RC600 Handbooks and Manuals)

The gap between the pick-up and rotor plate must be between 0.4 and 0.5
mm.

Yes you might have to enlarge the mounting holes to move it closer.

I think they are all the same with one pick up on the right hand side, if not post a photo and I /We will try again.

Good Luck

Zac, Many thanks for the info, in my manual it appears on page 6-6; only found it after reading your message. Mine certainly has two Points on the pick up and two square raised areas on the rotor at different degrees.

I’ll file the fixing points to allow a closer gap while awaiting the new coil to arrive.

Hi
Obviously, the clearance is between the Pick-Up (Black block with wires bolted to the casing) and each of the square raised areas on the rotor.

If you set that gap correctly at 0.4 -0.5, you may find your sparks return and you don't need the coil.....but its on its way now :)

Zac, I have filed both slots to allow me to get both pickup points to get to approx .7-.9 mm, not the .4-.5 in the manual. This matches up with a thread between Joachim, 72 and a contact in Australia with the same problem. Therefore I am a little confused; if I continue enlarging the slots to obtain .4/.5 I am sure that I will remove the back end of the slots completely! My pickup has two “contacts” roughly equally spaced across the pickup block; same with the square raised blocks on the rotor. I will try to up load a picture but all my images appear to exceed the size allowed of 0.1 meg. Do you have an email address to which I can send the image?

for the newer Nordies and RC/Cs there has been a notice from Piaggio Germany about adjusting the pickup when the engine has problems to start.
I am not shure if this will help for your problem, but i might be worth

0,7 - 0,9 mm between the metal pickup sticks and the 'noses' on the flywheel

ciao Joachim
