Hi Guys, hope you are all well.

I need to remove the carburetor to give it an overhaul. Removed all connections, cables, hoses and released all four clamps. So far so good but how does one shift the Carburetor sideways, it may be advancing years and not too good eyesight mine will move but there is not enough flex in the intake connecting tubes to allow it to slide out, I can dislodge the air box connector at the carb but that does not allow enough clearance at the front to pull the carb body back. I don’t believe that this has ever been removed since new!

Any tips gratefully received.

Hi
As I recall
If you take the inlet manifolds off with the Carburetors, it gives you the wiggle room.
Obviously taking everything else off out of the way is an advantage, and if you choose to drop the sub frame back (but not completely remove it) it helps but only a little.
Again if I recall you have to jiggle the airbox to carb gaiter out of the way, which if it is fragile, can be a risk.
But it is doable with the manifolds ( You have an 89 RC) on the carb....I think!.....Have a go!

Zac, Many thanks I had looked at that possibility but not including dropping the rear sub frame back so thanks for supporting that method. I’d like to know who wrote the manual; makes it sound like a walk in the park. Not quite the case but gives the grey cells some exercise. Keep safe.

Luigi wrote the manual but did not try it for himself, as Zac said drop the rear subframe and take it out with the manifold

why fiddling around with the rear frame?
Just move it out on the right hand side, together with the manifould.
Have done this about 4 times this week :(
Last time about 1 hour ago
I hope it will now run to get to to the Gileraclub anual meeting at least tomorrow.
No beer with the Gileristi this evening :(

ciao Joachim

Thanks Joachim,
Therefore remove tank, fuel pipes, disconnect throttle cables and clamps from manifolds and tube from air box. Undo the four hexagonal head bolts in the manifold. Then just slide the Carburetor out on the right hand side ? No need to remove airbox or drop the rear subframe!

I’ll give it a go.

Many thanks again, John
Keep well.
