I need to check my starter clutch as recently gave up the ghost. Can anyone tell me if there are any guide dowels in the left hand crank case cover. I have removed all bolts but cannot shift it having tapped all round using a wood block and hammer. I’m wondering if some sealant has been used in the past but cannot see any traces along the joint. Advice needed please!

Hi Joachim, I have removed the bolt found to the right hand side of the belt drive sprocket behind the rotor; I didn’t see any others in that area. I may try to make a puller using the rotor securing bolt against some steel strip fixed to the rotor cover bolt holes. Any other methods you can suggest? Hope you are well.

ok :)
Sometimes people think to remove the cover without taking off the Flywheel
If i rember right here should be 2 steel bushings to fix the cover.
Rust never sleeps...
So some heat or WD40 and time may help.
I just had a look at the sealing.
The bushes should be at the highest (just behind the cylinder) and the lowest point
There should be longer bolts mounted. Just to know where to flood with WD40 :)

Good luck, Joachim

Hi Thanks Joachim.

I have managed to get movement (2-3mm) at the front end of the cover going past the starter position on the top and to the oil pressure sender along the bottom but no further back. I’ll soak with WD40,leave to penetrate a few days and try again.

Will keep you updated,

John

Joachim, I have managed to loosen the cover at the front & along the top edge to just behind the starter and along the bottom to just in front of the oil pressure switch, so a little progress. This might indicate that it is the bottom bush that is corroded as you suggested. Daft question, but the bush is of tubular format at the lowest bolt position? I’ll try a hot air gun followed by a jet of cold shock & see if that may help release the bush. Slowly/Slowly!
