Now I'm trying to understand how the tachometer does not work.

Maybe it would be a good idea to explain the problem a little bit more.
My english is not very good. Tachometer means for me the gauge which shows the km/h and counts the km (ok for the brits out there it would be mph and miles)
This gauge is complete mechanical.
On Nordies it's a common fault that the cable to the front wheel breaks.
So maybe it's worth to have a look at this first.
There is a cable from Yamaha available that fits.

Hi Tiagus,
I just had a look at my Nordie wiring diagram and notes from making the new wiring harness for my 600 ‘Norturno’ the rev counter has a + connection red wire, - connection black wire and the pulse wire is white + green going to the ECU ignition module (No 23 on the wiring diagram)
Hope this helps
John

Joachim,
We Brits call the tacho a rev counter, for engine revolutions and is electronic on the Nordie, speedo is the thing show your speed and to count Km or miles and I have just broken my cable :(
Your English is far better than My German
Regards
John

Hi Tiagus,

I had the same problem on my Nordwest, the inner speedometer cable broke at a very low milage. I then fitted a speedo cable assembly from a Gilera 125 Apache which is exactly the same as a Nordwest cable except that it is a little bit longer. The bit of extra length seemed to work as I've had no further problems.

For the speedo cable a couple of Yamaha parts will fit. RD125LC and XJ900 if I remember correctly. Legth not exact but fittings correct. Worth a visit to a Yamaha dealer to do a biot of matching anyway.

With luck the rev counter fault will just be Italian electical connections ;)
