What we need is the spec. for each belt and a catalogue from a belt manufacturer. It may well be that Gilera bought in belts that already existed. I let the new owner of my Nordwest have the spare on my shelf. The name 'Dayco' printed on to it comes to mind. I'll try bit of Google research if David hasn't already done it 'officially'.

The Morini situation is very different as a broken belt is not the end of the world. I used to carry the last replaced one around inside the headlamp shell. On long continental trips I always had a flywheel puller with me (plus a spare transducer and pickup). I can tell the story of how that got me home from France on the Morini forum some time.

Hi all the last belt I fitted to my Nordie, bought from Bob Wright was made by Megadyne and was listed as a standard belt in my Megadyne product guide, but I didn't find anything similar from Nigerian suppliers unless from unknown Chinese makers, who I was not ready to trust
Megadyne are made in Italy and Spain supplying all sorts of industrial belts.
The other problem here, the small parts supply shops don't know how to store rubber goods, sunlight and ozone is not good for long life, I keep a spare in a black bag in the bottom of the fridge, shame it makes the tomatoes taste funny

Have you got any ID number for the belt? If so a bit of cross referencing might turn up something.

The storage issue is a good one. I knew about the dark and contamination free. I thought a steady room temperature would be OK. I know leaving one hanging on a nail in a cold garage makes you realise the risks. I keep my ground fresh coffee in the freezer.

Presumably as long as you warm up the belt before fitting it the preservation effect of the cold is a bonus.

Warming the belt up when it comes out of the fridge is not an issue here, our recent cold spell got down to 8c once usually not below 12c for not more than a month  even in the night its about 26c, I bet it make you want to spit!!

STOP... tell me more.
Since i got my first Saturno in the early 90s i was searching for an aftermarket product for this belt.
The belt was designed by Pireli with a very special pitch whic hi never found on another belt. Later on Pirelli gave the production in the hands of Dyco.
In those days i found a wholesale dealer who told me that he has good conections to the italian distributer. It would be an ease to get hands of this belts. At least he thought....
It tourned out, that Dayco was not allowed to sell the belt to others than Gilera dealers.
Meanwhile Gottfried Hahne appeared in the Gilera spare parts universe.
So no problem to get belts.
As Gottfried did not feel very well from time to time and he is somehow thinking to give up his shop, i decided to start a new try just before xmas.
Dayco meanwhile is listing the belt in their online catalog. Number is 94795. The belt is stamped 137RXR180. To use for Gilera dakota 350/500.
So i went to several car parts shops to ask. They asked their computers, phoned around to their wholesale dealers .... nothing.
So i mailed to the german importer of Dayco products. They gave me the adress of 2 Dayco *motorcycle* part wholesale dealers. From this i got the adress of motorcycle(scooter) shops near by. Again i asked for the belt. Nothing in the computer, so nothig to buy :(
Again the importer. He found out a wholesale dealer which has ordered this belts for his customers.
But no adress close by.
So again i give up and ordered a new belt from Gottfried yesterday.

That's the long and untold story of my cam belt disease ;)

ciao Joachim

PS you have a flywheel puller? I have made and sold a lot of pullers in those old days, but have no one left (at least nothing for the Saturno) But i still have a little scetch. If one needs this to get a puller made....
