yes for 10 quid its not a huge risk. The volvo switch turns on at 87 degrees and turns off at 82 degrees which seems less than the stock one and possibly better temperatures - hopefully it will stop temp going into red...

there might be another reason for the fan not starting.
Are you shure that the temperature is high enough to switch on the fan?
The Saturno temp gauge is well know for showing much to much ;)
Most of the earlier models did show this.
Later on Luigi added an exta resistor in the wiring loom to keep the needle away from the red line.
Beside this the sensor for the gauge in the cylinder head may show wrong data.
I had this on my Nordie some years ago.
The gauge was always near the red line.
I crossed my fingers taht i did not have a water pump problem.
Later on the needle did not drop down to the when the engine was cold.
I replaced the sensor by someone from a Piaggio scooter and the problem was gone.
The water pump problem occured the next year :)

ciao Joachim

No I am not sure.

AusGT on this forum says his fan only comes on when the needle gets INTO the red. My needle did not get into the red, just below. When I was moving with airflow the needle came down.

I know the fan is working.

I don't in fact think I have a problem. I believe it is as you say the way the gauge reads and my fan will come on when needle in red.....

Im am inclined to try the temp sensor from the Volvo 240 as that turns fan on at 87 degrees and off at 82 degrees. AusGT has used an infra red sensor and he says the fan comes on in 90s degrees C......

just another suggestion...
If you have mounted an 600ccm cylinder on a Saturno case and a Saturno head you should also modify the head gasket.
If you don't do this, the engine will heat up more than it should normaly do.
