Bit annoyed that the battery on my just purchased Saturno appears to be duff. I had it on an optimate trickle charger which came up green (ok) and it started this morning but I stalled it and when I went to restart all I got was a very slow turnover and then a click.

I'll recharge again and check voltage but I suspect a big hi comp single needs a battery in tip top condition.

Anyone got any recommendations for a good battery???

I have been using Odysseys PC545 in all my bikes, plus the GTM coupe I'm building and my Jedi race car, they have to be stood on end to fit Nordies and RC Cobra's but the same battery fits all and my oldest battery is about 8 years old now, the best price I have seen is JJC Race & Rally about gbp78

How on earth do you remove the battery? My bike is the IoM edition with twin high level exhausts and access is amazingly tight - any hints?

It looks like you remove battery cables then tip battery towards the rear from the top and withdraw over the rear the but it looks very very tight....

It is tight and I'm not sure if mine has a normal Saturno battery tray, it has 2 fixing bolts each side, I remove the 2 front bolts, slacken the 2 rear bolts and tilt the tray down, just enough to get the battery out, my bike does not have the Saturno air box, but is fitted with more bulky twin Keihin CR carbs and foam filters

Hi,
Just a suggestion but it might be worthwhile checking for a good earth?.
My very limited experience ( I've only had mine for just over a month) in starting procedure from cold is to kick it over a couple of times, then just past compression, then hit the starter button, it turns over a treat then and starts easily.
I'll put money on many people on the list knowing much more about this than I do!
Alan.

To get the battery out on my Saturno I used to undo the cables then just undo the 4 bolts holding the battery tray and drop it down-saves having battery acid possibly leak out if you tip the battery-assuming you are using a wet battery.
To start it I just used to press the button-and mine finished up as a high compression 558-always started but you do need a good battery.
My Nordwest is a bit more fussy, but again fully charged good battery and it always starts. One thing I have found is that it starts more easily if I use the best fuel-it's not happy on ordinary unleaded.
