Hi all,

Newbie here! Just brought a 500 in from Europe (to the UK) and as it hasn't run for some years I'm in mid "recommission".

Any hints on the best way to drain coolant out and then refill ... multiple "plugs" in the system and want to make sure I get the old stuff out and then get no airlocks!

Thanks!

Pie-Man (aka Tim)

Hi Tim, you did not say which 500? but just remove the lowest hose and drain away, refilling there is vent plug on top of the head to the right side of the spark plug hole, just make sure all the air is out when you refill and all should be OK

you may also bleed the system 2 or 3 times when the engine is warmed up.

Thanks Guys,

It’s a 1993 Saturno.

I’ll look at the bike over the weekend and may load pics if I’m unsure of the vent bolt location!

The 2 bolts by the thermostat ... are these also bleed locations?

Thanks!

Hi Tim,
The only bleed is to the R-H side of the plug hole.
If you look the left of your screen and see user menu, look down and see handbooks and manuals, I'm pretty sure you will find a Saturno manual

Thanks John,

Couldn’t find much in the Saturno manual about the cooling system? The only reference I’ve just found is to drain the system from the outer of the 2 bolts on/in the thermostat?

The manual is a cracking read nevertheless! I have a weekend ahead of me that’ll involve brake reconditioning, fork oil (and seal?) replacement, engine oil change, new timing belt then press the start button!

Anything else you guys would recommend before starting what looks like a pristine engine .., that hasn’t been started for a few years?

Cheers!

Tim
