Carb all clean now! Engine oil and filter changed. Rear brake line was blocked so HEL replacement hoses fitted, rear master cylinder & caliper reconditioned, K&N air filter, new spark plug, new battery, new fuel pipe ... so timing belt and coolant the last things left before I press the button?

Any hints on timing belt change gratefully received ... old copies of the owners mag at hand to check for any advice!

Hi Tim,
There used to be an instruction with pictures for belt changing on uncle Bobs website, if not then remove the belt cover, rotate the crank until both cam wheel timing marks align the the head/barrel split line and the rotor mark aligns with the casing mark, release the tension pulley center nut, use your virgin pulley extractor to remove the rotor, remove the old belt and fit the new one making sure it is oil and grease free only use fingers to fit the belt no screwdrivers or anything with sharp edges to get it on to the toothed pulleys, re-tension the the pulley, I always rotate the crank to recheck the timing marks before fitting the rotor back.
Good luck
john

Hi Tim I just browsed BobW site, if you look at the Nordwest cam belt price guide you can click on to get a fitment guide.
Cheers

Thanks for your advice John! I feel a bit braver now!

I hope that by the end of the weekend I’ll hear the burble of a 500 single!?!

when the belt is off you may also have a look at your water pump.

ciao Joachim
