Can someone please tell me how to tension the return spring on the kickstart mechanism. The spring is located in the cover and it seems an impossible trick to tension the spring and fit the cover. I had a very slight leak from the valve lift lever and thought this would be just an hours job!

have a look at the workshop manual.
If i remember right there is a description
The trick is the allen key bolt on the left side oft the engine behind the kick starter shaft.

Thanks for your response, I cannot find any reference for refitting the kickstart in the manual.

Anyhow. Are you able to handle german ;)
I have a pdf file here around from HP (aka Mr. Saturno) with pics.
He has marked the important things, so it may be usefull also without the text.

Thanks for the information, Joachim. All sorted now. My non existent German meant I couldn’t read the text but worked it out from the pictures. Thanks again.
