I'll check that, but I did rig the fan up to a battery before i fitted it, and checked the running, all was well.
Just about to brave the weather and go to my mates to collect the temp gun.I guess I'm looking for low to mid eighties as normal running temp before the fan kicks in?,

OK, here's what I found.
I put the thermostat back in.
Riding with "it's the gauge thats wrong" head on, I let it go into the red, it stops there, sits at the lower part of the red area. Got the gun out, the bottom of the rad is 47c, top at the cap, 97c, other side at the top 52c.bottom 42c
Head on the chain side 87c, lower down 82c. the exhaust side is up around 98c right behind the header pipe. I gave it some stick on the way back, temp gauge rock steady, in the red!. The fan isn't coming on, I checked the temp right at the sender, about 52c. Certainly doesn't feel like it's overheating in any way. I also had to adjust the pilot jet air screw and the tickover speed when it was "up to temp"..
So gents, do you think I'm looking at a duff sender or gauge?. It would seem so. If that is the case I will be a very happy chappie.
Now then, as this is the first time I've relaxed slightly riding it, it's very involving, goes well for a 350, a very different experience from a Morini.

Sensor would be my first guess. A gauge may be hard to source but the sender may be something fairly common.

Possibly test the resistance across it at 100 degrees-ish. If you can get it out fairly easily. Possibly similar values to these?

Doing a bit of googling it seems the RC600 uses the same one as a GFR (329859)and the Saturnos.

Worth asking Uncle Bob first though.

By the way. Different to a 350 Morini but not necessarily 'better'? ;)

I'll certainly ask Bob on Monday.
Perhaps the wrong forum to say, but I love my Morinis!.
The Saturno will be just as good, but in a different way!. Also, there's something about 350 that strikes a chord with me.
Hopefully my overheating problem, isn't an overheating problem, and that chord will be struck!.
Thanks again for all the help everyone, I'll report back.
Alan.

Gilera singles (of any capacity)and Morini wee vees make a fine choice in anyone's garage. I'll never be without one of Lambertinis masterpieces (albeit subtly 'personalised')
