Dear all.

I hope someone can help with a few questions. I have tried to find answers in the forum, so apologies if they are out there already.
Is there any information on Saturno model differences/changes? My recently acquired Saturno has a side stand that springs up as soon as the weight is taken off, not my favourite design. When I look at other Saturnos and also the wiring diagram, there seems to be a warning buzzer and micro switch on the stand. I don’t have these. I presume this type of stand doesn’t automatically spring up.

I also have a cable operated clutch but I see pictures of a hydraulic clutch. Was this a retro fit or part of Saturno evolution?

Are there any other differences between models?

Finally (For now!) I read horror stories about the front mudguard cracking and falling off. How real a risk is this? eg only after high mileage or is it only a matter of time. I know that these are hard if not impossible to find, I don’t want it to fall off if it can be prevented. Does anyone do anything to prevent it cracking, for example to make a supporting bracket on the inside of the mudguard? Maybe I am being paranoid....

Thanks
Keith

Hi Keith,

I've never seen a flip up side stand on a Saturno. Mine has the buzzer.

Yes the front guard can snap off unexpectedly if you don't keep an eye on it. Mine did :( My Saturno is a fairly low millage Japanese import so I suspect that age is a factor in this. The guard develops a crack line just in front of the fork brace where you can't see it. I managed to locate a NOS one. I'm keeping an eye on the new one and was thinking of bracing it underneath if it showed any signs of cracking.

Mike, if you check the photo you will see that the spring is mounted to the right hand side of the stand pivot point. It makes the whole side stand experience a bit nervy to say the least!

Nice pic. I wished my Saturno looked as good. Yours looks brand new :)

I had a couple of nineties Guzzis with flip up stands. You had to take care where you parked. I always worried about someone bumping the bike and causing the stand to flip up.

Here's a pic of my stand and broken guard. The spring mount is on the other side.

I too have had the front guard break. I sourced a second hand unit and found it started to crack as well. I used sikaflex and some thin alloy sheet to try to strenghten the guard but found it starting to crack again.
I fitted an extra fork brace/guard mount on top of the original and this seems to have stopped the guard cracking, I think as the front forks are now stiffer and not flexing the guard so much.
Just my 2cents worth but it seems to work.
