Hi Mike, I will see what I can do with the stand as I really don’t like it as it is. I am very fortunate, the bike is in really nice condition. I spent 4 years looking for one and had to hand over a big chunk of ££££‘S after convincing the wife it was a good idea....

the different side stand designs maybe due to local laws.
At least for the Nordie i know 3 or 4 designs.
1 long spring, 2 short springs, a rubber block at the lower end and a electrical switch.
In some countries (Japan?) it is not allowed that the engine starts while the bike is on the side stand. So an switch is nedded.
Here around that is no problem. But whe you put tteh bike vertical the stand has to flip up.
So some springs will do. Much cheaper ;)

The front fender problem is somehow new to me.
I never heard about that.
Is it allowed to 'steal' the pic to ask around here?

ciao Joachim

Yes I agree, the local regulations must have dictated the design to some extent. I think my Saturno is of Italian origin, but I am not sure. Certainly the cheaper low tech solution.....

Today I spent a little time to modify the stand to a “non spring up” type. Very easy to modify and can be easily return to original setup. I have still to connect a switch for either buzzer, light or ignition cut for safety.
The photos probably explain better.

Removed the cam/link and 2 springs.
Replaced the pivot bolt for one without the bit of bar welded on as it would foul the spring.
Fitted a slightly longer spring (100mm with parallel loops) onto the lug that the cam/link was originally fitted on.

Now it stays down, much better like that. :). There is a existing provision for the stand microswitch (7mm dia hole in the bracket) and I presume the loom is common so I hope I will be able to find the relevant connectors and fit the switch and either buzzer, warning light, or use to cut the ignition.

Next I need an original switch and rubber cap, but I think difficult to find, part numbers :-
328048 side stand switch
46766 switch cap

or otherwise an alternative switch push type switch.

....and I promise I will clean all the excess grease off the spring and pivot!

Cheers
Keith
