Folks,

I need to pull my finger out and service the Saturno.

I can get a service kit from Hahne for 46euro (filter, plug, cambelt), but he mentioned that the compulsory puller will set me back 49euro. For something that will only be used once every few years that seems a bit much, but perhaps it is a truly incredible piece of kit.

I've no idea what one looks like, so can anyone tell me if it is truly needed, or is it possible to make one up myself (and if so, how), or does someone have a used one for sale/hire?

A.

It's a fairly standard type of flywheel/rotor puller. You screw the puller on to a thread in the rotor then tighten a bolt through the puller to pop the rotor off. There's an illustration on page 14 of the manual PDF:
www.gilera.org.uk/Joomla/images/Docs/Sat...orkshop%20Manual.pdf

Page 43 shows how to use it.

I know the correct dimensions for a Nordwest puller (38 x 1.5mm) but the Saturno uses a smaller one I think. Any ideas Joachim?

You won't be able to do the job without one as the rotor is usually very tight on the tapered shaft and key.

Can't Bob Wright supply one cheaper?

Sorted. Bob Wrights had everything I needed, and the puller was quite a bit cheaper the Gottfried's. Oh - and I picked up a screen at a good price as well.

Sigh...now I really will have to pull my finger out and do the work.

Thanks for the good advice!

tooooo late.....
I could offer a sctech of the puller. So if someone has a mate who has a late, or knows someone who knows....
But to get it made from a workshop who has to live from the moeny he earns will be much more expensive then the 49 Euros.
The original Gilera part was somehow over 100!!!
BTW Gottfried is selling 'my' flywheel pullers.
For some years i got them made here at the place where i work. I think i sold about 60 pieces over the years.
Then i found someone in the big web who was cheaper. I sold another 20 pieces.
I thought that meanwhile every Gilera owner has one ;)
Saturno pullers (350 and 500ccm engines) where asked not very often. And for the Nordies (600ccm engines) you can buy a puller for the Suzuki Burgman for about some 20 Euros from Buzetti at nearly every scooter shop.
So there was no need to get them made.
I should check back for the details about the Saturno puller. The Noride puller was M38x1,5. So the one foer the Saturno is M36x1,5 (if i remember right)
I think there is something from the Rotax engines and BMWs available what fits. But i have to proof this.

ciao joachim

PS Rotax 4stroke engines from the 80s. Used in some KTMs and late MuZ (or MZ) bikes. M36x1,5
Maybe Buzetti also has something which fits. Maybe this will help some Saturno owners looking for a flywheel puller

Hi Joachim - thanks for the information.

The parts from Bob Wrights all arrived on Friday, just in time for the London weather to dip below freezing overnight, and not get above 6C during the day.

I was planning on working on Gilly outside on the street (as I don't have a garage). Time for a rethink....and she's now inside the house, sitting in the dining-room. I have a VERY understanding wife...

So my 'garage' has central heating, a coffee-machine, beer-fridge, and Sky-sports - Brilliant!

Happy days!
