Sorry guys,
Should have put this on my last thread.Anyway any thoughts please on replacement front fork seals for a Nordwest ?
Think i read somewhere that the standard replacement items are OK but better using those from a Kawasaki KX of some description.
Any info would be great
Thanks again
Stephen :)

you my use everything that fits in.
There are 2 versions out.
A narrow one with a washer and a higher version wihout.
As far as i remember the narrow one is not available on the after market.
So if you have a fork with a washer in, just use the higher seal and throw away the washer ;)

Dimensios are 41x53x10(10,5)
or 41x53x8(,5)

FIN before 228*71037 have the 10mm seal

Yo ucan also find this informations in the old The GeN ;)

ciao Joachim

Guess what, my fork seals are leaking too, well at least the weaknesses of my Nordwest are consistent with everyone elses.
Probably will wait a month or so until i can be bothered to change them.

You need to give them a right good tug to get the stantion out from the shroud and remember that there IS only one sprung leg. Take photos as reference so you know which order the bushes all go back in. The forks may be considered basic/crude by modern standards but they look bloody cool and do function reasonably well for 20 year old kit.

Nordie Paoli fork seals; the right hand leg has the damper control, the left hand leg has the spring, usually only the right hand leg seals produce enough pressure in use to leak, so if the left hand leg is not leaking no need to change its seal, keep it as a spare.
The allballs 41x53x10.5 seal is P/No 55-116 or 41x53x8 seal with spacers is 55-117
You will need 400cc SAE 10 fork oil in the damped right hand leg, as it has no damping any clean oil just to lubricate the bits is OK in the left leg
The bike must be supported when you take the wheel out or it will fall over a bike stand under the engine or suspended from the bars with an engine crane or hoist is my preferred method.
As O-B said it take a bit of pulling after the circlip is removed to get the gubbins out with the fork spindle end in a vice (protect it with 2 bits of wood) and use the chromed end like a slide hammer, I found the AllBalls seals fitted much easier than the originals came out!!
Good luck
John
