Hi folks, I have recently purchased an RC600 1992. Generally intact and fully functional with a couple of areas which need sorting and for which help will be gratefully received.

Bike appears to run well but doesn’t want to restart when hot. When cold it starts well on the button; I haven’t mastered the kickstart technique yet. In fact occasionally the kickstart jams in the horizontal position but returns to vertical with a very distinctive “click”. Brand new battery appears to be charging.

Second query, what is the best treatment for the magnesium cases, mine are very rough and a combination of various shades of grey. I understand that polishing doesn’t last long. Can they be powder coated or painted; if the latter what is the recommended type of paint?

Thanks in anticipation, John

I had to remove white alluminium "fur" then used an etch primer followed by the gold paint, although brush painted looked half good.

My nearest powder coater would be in SA or UK, carrying a tin of Hammerite back from UK was a lot easier.
