I just wondered what anyone else would recommend

usually those 2strokers use engine oil in the gearbox. Ok 'real' motorcycles with wet clutch did also do this
So the recommend 15W40 should be ok.
Other brands are also ok.

But there are also special gearbox oils out there. I think Motul is one of the brands selling such stuff.
I should have a look in my workshop what i have used. But not today
