I have noticed on the German forum a few people who have built modified engines have fitted Carillo conrods, is there any history of the standard Gilera rods breaking?
No. The only case of a broken rod i can remember is the one of Olis heavily tuned race Saturno.
But it's cool to have a Carrillo rod
I also have one, or two.
In my case there is a reason why.
I own a big bore kit with a piston which has a narrow distance between the 'eyes' fo the pin. So i would have to make the original rods end smaller.
So i decided to get hands of one of this magic Carrillos. Was a hard work.
I got help from a guy of the german forum.
We have a Gilera dealer here (Volker Heim) who is till selling them (at least i think so). But the price (better said PRICE)
The importer (Grossewaechter)did not sell direct to private persons. So i got help from the person mentioned above.
But it was a big troubble which lasts for months. Grossewaechter is not very interested in selling single rods. At least it looks like this.
The person decided that this was the last time he bought something from them!
So... Heimracing, or ask Carrillo for help.
Here is the answer to my mail from 2006
Thank you for your interest in Carrillo rods. We do not stock rods for
Gilera engines but can make them. The current manufacturing time is
about 6 weeks. Your cost as an individual direct is $327.00 per rod.
As far as i know Grossewaechter did machine something on the rods they receive from USA. Therefore we had to wait another few months. But i am not shure.
What can i offer is the following.
The rods both are marked with #36179
The bearing halfs are marked
STD 4G CB-602AL
and CLEVITE 157
Good luck
ciao Joachim
PS Heim is still selling them
