OK guys,
So clutch has always been very notchey but because of the previuos problems with the fuelling(see other threads on same)it was not easy to tell what was what! Now the latter has been sorted " we have a problem Houston"
Have taken the cable off, cleaned and re routed and ten tonnes better. Engagement is OK but the engine really shudders as the clutch is released at low revs, a test try in second gear is the same but worse, really shakes itself to bits. So what is it guys ?
Cheers
Stephen

Mine is the same, I just thought it was the nature of a big single to be a bit chuggy at low revs. I don't expect a smooth pickup below 3.5k, infact I am dissapointed with the useable rev range altogether. Unless it is a fueling problem which it could be, my bike had been stood for long periods before I got it so maybe had varnish in the carb.

I seem to recall problems with the clutch shock absorber on some Nordies? It has springs inside which are supposed to make things smoother but I think they (or the cover screws?) were coming loose or breaking in some cases. Have a look at page 9-1 of the manual - page 63 of the PDF. Mine used to get a fair amount of abuse doing the speed hill climbs and so I checked it. No taking off at low revs in that case though :)

Hi Guys
Have been playing with the cable routing and possibly with some success, not that I know what the correct or factory position is of course!
Anyway on my third attempt now with a more "free flowing" route and could have solved the problem, also gave it a good lubing at the same time. Not sure yet as I have still yet to ride it further than the end of the road.

Well despite my best efforts with the clutch cable it's still what I would call pretty bad. So I think I am going to have a look inside. Bloody annoying as this bike is costing me serious money now for something that is worth two bob.
Anyway that's the way its goes !
Sharpo, just to advise that I have still been playing with filters, pipes and carbs, Best Result so far is standard zorst, new carbs from Uncle Bob and a new filter. Not sure on the filter front, was running the new carbs and std zorst with a K&N, a little iffy at the bottom end but very good mid and top-end. So thought that it might be better with a full paper unit, that's now made it feel like a strangled cat ! Looked again at the filter and can now see that where the red rubber stuff has been applied to the outside/edges of the filter casing its has been applied so heavily that it actually reduces the inlet area by about 20%. Still only £7 so will go back to the K&N but perhaps add my own " prefilter"
It never ends !!!

Yes unless everything is standard to start with it's difficult to know where to start looking for possible faults. I serviced mine the other day and found one of the inlet rubber socket head bolts loose, haven't ridden it since but that may have been causing the popping on deceleration that it started a few weeks ago.
