Right, bike all MoT'd, and the tax disc is even attached, so all up and running ! Mind you, had to replace a very leaky fuel pipe this afternoon, and now I've found another problem.
I thought whilst running around today that the transmission was a little harsh. Upon inspection, I found that the sprocket bolts are loose, and there is a little sideways movement. However, the nuts don't tighten, the studs they screw onto just spin, I can't tighten or loosen them !
Looks like a may have to resort to the angle grinder, and then replace them. Are they supposed to be studs, or bolts ?
Anyway, off to bed, perhaps I'll awake in the morning to find a wonderful, (easy and cheap!) solution on the forum
Cheers, guys !
ps, I used to be on the 250 Ninja site, in the US the bikes are known as Ninjettes, ie, baby Ninja's, so I figure my 350 Nordy must therefore be a Nordette ..................

A 350 Nordie is a Nordcape, when you say the sprocket bolts were loose you are meaning the five Allen bolts with spacer washer under the heads and nuts on the outside of the sprocket?
These have 2 jobs, 1st is to hold the sprocket to the carrier and 2nd the head plus spacer washer enters a rubber bushing in the hub to act as a cush drive, wheel out Allen key in the bolt head and spanner on the outside they will come loose, now to overcome the elongated holes and spacers reduced in length from jiggling about and wearing their seating face, a washer between the spacer and sprocket carrier will give a quick fix but not last, a better fix would be to make new spacers with an extra length on the end with a reduced diameter that can be pressed into the sprocket carrier after the 5 elongated holes have been drilled over sized, I made new alli sprocket carriers which allowed me to used the same sized location diameter and fixing bolts as my Honda Xr, wider choice of alli sprockets ;)
Good luck
John

I thought Nordcape was the German designation for the Nordwest, mine is a Nordwest if the bodywork is original.
Mine does not have Allen bolts, they are nuts on studs, but the studs don't look original as the ends appear to have been hacked off !

Hi Ivor the Germans have Nordwests & Nordcapes B)
With the wheel out and sprocket carrier removed from the hub you should have the Allen head of the sprocket bolts protruding to enter the rubber cush drive bushes when assembled into the hub?? or is the sprocket bolted direct to the hub without cush drive with studs and nuts, like my RC600 (which surprised me)
If the sprocket is bolted direct to the hub without cush drive bushes and the stud hole threads are stripped it would be repaired with helicoils or similar thread inserts :S

Just a quick note that as far as I know the Nordwest was known as Nordwest everywhere except Germany. The Nordwest name was already in use in Germany and therefore the Nordcape was the name chosen by Gilera for sale in Germany only.
