I had an exciting time on Wednesday, firstly, I found a screw through the rear tyre tread, it wasn't leaking, so I risked the ride home, (around 16 miles).
On the way, whilst in the middle lane of the M3 doing 75 past a van, (which was doing around 72 !), the main tank decided it was empty. My tap is too tight to turn whilst riding, so I frantically waved at the driver of the van, and managed to get across to the hard shoulder !
Anyway, when home, wheel off, down to the tyre place. They took one look, and told me that due to the speed rating, they couldn't fix it !
Long story short, ended up at a motorcycle and tyre co in Aldershot that I've used before, they ordered me a Conti Trail attack, in a 150 width. I figured it would fit ok as the previous was a 160.
Ha, ha, had a fright when I fitted it this evening. It rubs rather badly on the plastic guard between the swingarm and tyre. And that is with a worn chain and the wheel quite far back. So, it was out with the hacksaw ! Not ideal, I'll have to fab a new guard in thinner plastic.
When I get a front to match in the next few weeks, I'll check the clearance first !
I'm just not used to this modern tyre thing ............
