That's what the Burgmann engineers also told me whne i bought the seals many years ago.
How much did you take away?
1mm?
If i remeber right that's what they suggested. Otherwise the preload on the seals would make troubble.

To be honest i just used a twisting motion holding the 'thin end' of the impellor flat against some wet/dry paper on a flat surface, it was very easy to remove about 1mm which i think is correct, anyway its fitted and working!!
