Started doing some work on my bike, changed the carbs and a few other bits, it ran for a while but now I have no spark. Any ideas what that could be?. Also change the speedo unit do you think that could be the problem?.

Any help would be appreciated.

Could be several things. Work back through the ignition system. Presumably you have tried a new plug?

There are diagnostics in the manual for ignition coil resistances. Check all connections. Check the ignition sender air gap. After standing a while you can get a build up of corrosion on the rotor which doesn't seem to help. Check the stator winding resistance etc.

Can't remember if the RC is induction or 'pure' CDI ignition but the basic checks are the same and if the battery is turning it over smartly that isn't the problem if an induction system.

Very unlikely to be anything to do with a speedo unit but you may have disturbed the wiring in that area so check around the ignition switch etc. On the CDI bikes you could bypass the switch by taking off a connection somewhere that earths out the system (like a Morini). Can't remember which one at the moment. You have checked the kill switch - yes?

The good news is no side stand or clutch switches to worry about.

Ok a couple of things I need to say, the bike had been running up until I change the carbs, both handle bar switch gears horn and clock along with a new spark plug. All the parts were new. It ran for a couple of days but the engine was missing and I had to rev it high to keep it going. Two days after it would not start, I have pulled most things back off and now going through it one by one to see if it way any of the new parts that failed. Will keep you updated.

Thanks

Neville

Fortunately, sometimes, it's the simple things that cause the biggest problems.

Glad you got it sorted and running.
