Well everything has been going fine with my Nordwest since I got it back on the road back in may, after sorting out the leaking valve seats.

However, I obviously spoke too soon, as last week whilst nipping round a junction on the M25 to go to the Ducati dealer I felt it give a bit of a cough and start to run rough in the 3rd lane, by the time I had made it across to the hard shoulder it was properly rattling and the oil pressure warning light had come on!

So the very nice man from the AA took me home on his trailer and I parked it up.

I am going to split the cases over the weekend, but the clunk when you turn it over would tend to imply that the big end shells have failed - I suspect that i have had a big end nut come loose; because the previous owner had been in there and obviously did not understand the use of a torque wrench as everything else is all over the place!

Does anyone know what the big end shells are, I am assuming some kind of Fiat and where I might get them?

congrats :S

I suppose you will have to bring the parts to a workshop for grinding the bearing surfaces.
Usually the guys there should be able to find something for you.
I somewhere must have a FIAT parts number for a bearing which someone claimed that it should fit. But i did not know if that is the truth ;)

good luck, Joachim

Joachim,

I feel sure that the big end shells are from some FIAT or other, but the markings on the shells do not help.

So any information with regard to a possible Fiat connection would be much appreciated.

The big end diameter is 40mm and the width of the shell 21.75MM.

found thsi in an old article in the german Gileraclub forum

Fiat 020"C96 , BT-20 ,
width is 25mm
This maybe to much as the Gilera rod claimed to be only 20mm

20 is the thickness of the shell. Available are different sizes to fit the crank diameter

But all without any waranty ;)

ciao Joachim

Joachim,

I don't suppose they mentioned which Fiat model and engine size this shell was out of did they?

The width is not a problem, it is perfectly possible to trim teh shells to size.

Joachim,

Just tried two bearing suppliers and the only way that they can cross reference is model of car and engine size.

Even if we knew it was say a Punto 1.3 it will be quick to narrow it down.
