Well it looks like I may have found the correct shells and if so then they are still available!

Need to get a proper measurement of thr internal diameter of the conrod tomorrow with an internal micrometer before I am sure.

If you can let us know the correct reference for shells that can at least be made to fit let us know and it can go on the 'pattern parts' page.

Well it has been an interesting week so far and it would appear that I have been able to make good progress on these shells.

I now have the supposed spec for the shells and will be going over to collect a set on Friday, from my bearing supplier.

The final thing to confirm is the width of the tang on the shells and the fit in the conrod eye - my internal micrometer says that it should be fine, but I want to check and be sure.

I am working with Bob Wright Motorcycles (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and the shells should be available through him in a couple of weeks time.

The shells we have found so far are std and -0.5mm, but I understand that other sizes are available.

I have checked my crankshaft and there is nothing out of the ordinary on it and it should be easy to grind the big end.

Well a further update on the ongoing saga of my blow up. I was getting rather worried that whilst I had a result of the problem I couldn't find a cause for it!

Well we were checking the conrod for ovality last week and a close examination showed that the tangs for the big end shells were both on teh same side. Turns out that the last person who put the engine together had put the cap on the conrod on 180 degrees out! There are no markings to make sure that the cap is put on the right way round.

So it looks like the bearings would have been pinching on the crankshaft since it was put back together - no wonder it trashed the bearings.

I have managed to get a good 2nd hand set of cases, which I will use to get the bike back on the road. Needless to say it has been stripped and thoroughly checked over before being put back together. Should be back on the road this weekend.
