Hello again and thanks
You raise some good points and i agree that the YK is a bit weird !
Will do some investigation over the winter period and see what happens.
Having said that what do you reckon to the DL carbs ver the KH's
I my little brain a carb that pumps neat fuel on a large throttle opening seems a good idea but i guess on a single that could be a different matter.
As i say will check it out over the winter. The bike could do with a bit of TLC on oil, shock linkages, head bearings etc etc.
Thanks again
Stephen

The CRs are a much more modern design and the only Dellortos I've used (on a Morini twin) haven't had pumps. They used to use single 38mm Dellorto 'pumpers' on the old R90/S BMWs though with fairly big cylinders.

IIRC the original 350 Dakota used twin Dellortos. I guess a pair around 30 mm might work well if you can pick them up at the right price off Ebay.

If you go that route a good tuning guide for Dellortos is here:http://www.ducatimeccanica.com/dellorto_guide/dellorto.html

Hello again and thanks for the reply.
Just to go completely off the topic has anyone thought about "twin plugging" the head of a Nordie.
Dont know why i ask the question other than,
A, A lot of folk who have oldish big bore BMW's seem to like doing this and give good reports.
B, I just love to ask questions !
Cheers all

The only reason for twin plug heads is to improve the combustion if is slow burning or there is incomplete combustion, I would guess your older big bored BMW were only having 2 valves in a hemispherical head??
Gilera's seem able to produce more power than the crank cases can stand, so we need stronger cases more than twin plugs!!

What we need is the proper 750 'Desert Racer' engine that was developed for the Paris-Dakar and Pharoah's Rally. Only about four ever built I think. Not just a big bore 558 but a completely different, stronger, motor apparently. It would have featured in the rumoured Nordwest MkII. I still wonder what happened to all the designs and tooling for the 'bailbero' engine that were sold to Guzzi and therefore are presumably now back within the Piaggio empire.

Hello Stephen,

Just to let you know the air box/filter was all standard. and from memory the diaphram needed re fitting and both sides of the carb had slight adjustments made. (all the notes were written down on RMD dyno note paper!)

Also the work was done when i had a different pipe fitted and not the arrow.. i suspect the arrow pipe is more free flowing?

Still like to check up from time to time on all things Gilera!

Cheers all
Mike.

(P.s I may know of an immaculate GFR that hasn't run for a while that could be up for sale. ;) )
