Hi Pete,

Please post this for me, I'm unable to open GeN this morning my server is not co-operating at all.

I opened your ex hillclimer CR33 on the dining room table last night.

The needle is YY7 with the circlip fitted to the middle of its 7 grooves,as it was fitted to a big bore engine with a free flow exhaust you may need to drop the needle a notch or 2 down.

The main jet is 135, the slow jet is 70

The following is some info I have for setting Keihin’s www.gilera.org.uk/Joomla/index.php?optio...:technical&Itemid=64

In all the paper work I got with the Norturno was a dyno rolling road print out from 1996 showing it gave 51 at the wheel on a 558 engine with a slightly polished head,

This is more than Gilera quoted at the crank for a standard engine, a good increase

Good luck

John

If you want a bit more go (who did not??)there is a cheaper alternative to the CR carbs.
I noticed in the RC600R manual that its TK carbs were fitted with bigger main jets, 160 instead of the normal Nordie 135, this was quoted as giving 51bhp instead of the Nordie 48bhp. I cannot see any other difference apart from the jet change so has to be worth a try.
Please let me know if anybody has tried this.
Regards
John

Did the RC600R had a slightly less restrictive exhaust system as it was a 'proper' competition bike?

I would have thought the 'R' might be more than just cosmetic (twin headlights etc.).

The exhaust looks normal Gilera RC/Nordie, but would think most owners had rusted the old exhausts and replaced them with something louder/less restrictive by now anyway. the only noticeable difference in the specs I could find was the bigger main jet, as
I've got a spare set of TK's it has to be worth poking a drill down a jet assuming nobody has not done it already??

Dear all,
Many thanks for all the feedback and information, fantastic !
Just as a bit of background info the Nordie has a Arrow exhaust fitted and a gather that the previuos owner had one of the main jets drilled a bit to cater for this. I have the paperwork to say what exactly was done but cannot put my hands on it at the moment.
I assume, but do not know that the air filter is standard. I would like to change this to a K&N or similar to get the best out of the exhaust
Anyway i would not say that the carb is miles out, its just that on low revs it pops along like a 250,not even a badly set up 250, just seems a bit gutless to me. Having said that it goes well enough once the taps are opened and cannot fault it in that dept. I had a Nordie a few years ago, albeit in standard trim but do not remember it being a bit of a "pop pop" on lower revs.
So my train of thought is to get the carbs, exhaust and filter all working together.
Thanks again
Stephen

Hmm. The Teikei dual choke is a bit of a weird beast, but I don't remember my standard Nordie as being gutless at the bottom end. It might be worth checking the CV diaphragm and that the linkage between the two throttles is as it should be. Perhaps only the CV jet was altered and the slide choke side that is used at lower throttle openings is runing lean.

Unfortunately there isn't much info on the carbs in the manual but Paul's excellent addendum on the last page gives some potentially useful jetting settings.

A good old jet clean and possibly a session in an ultrasonic bath for the carb body might be worth a try in case of a blocked drilling somewhere but I confess I've never had a Teiki apart. Kehin CRs and DEllorto PHBH units are much simpler :)
