Happy New Year guys,

The RCHusqvarnwest demon hybrid stalled a bit over the past few months due to a grim Scottish climate and an inability to open the garage due to not getting near the garage door.......
However the recent festive break saw a tiny glimmer of bench action. The Husky motor was duly placed on the bench and the RC600 frame offered up. Everything that can foul is fouling. RHS kickstart shaft for starters (no pun intended) plus the swingarm mountings foul the rear of the crankcases as on the Husky the rear engine mounting uses the swingarm pivot bolt to hold the motor in place and locates the swingarm. Confused without photos? Yup, me too.
The Plan B would be to modify the Nordy swingarm to fit the Husky frame and build the bike around that as the forks are a straight swop so front and back would be taken care of....just a lot of bracket and mounting fab work to hang the bodywork off of.
Plan C means hacking up both frames, grafting them together in a jig, and having a nervous breakdown somewhere along the line.
Ah, the fun never stops.......
Photos to follow when I get this camera charged up, grrrrrr,

Cheers

Phil

Hi Phil
Every thing is possible  but at the end of the day stand back and ask yourself why - is it just because you can B) or you don't have a Nordie engine?

I once mixed and matched a Morini 350, Morini 250 and an SWM 250 Enduro.

The results: a lowered SWM with a disc front brake for hill climbing (it got me a pot in the NHCA 250 championship). Later I went the whole hog and put the Rotax disc valve motor in to a 250 Morini frame.

An 'off road' Morini 250 twin - I named it a 'Wombat' - sold long ago.
The 2C/375 Morini which i still have.

I had got another 250 Morin frame in the shed and one time I had the 604 Nordie motor out for yet another head gasket repair I was sorely tempted to see if it could be shoehorned in to the weevee frame. Though I suspect the frame would have cracked as just the power of the 250 Rotax did that down by the swing arm pivot (though initially insufficient engine mountings may have been a factor).

@John - I suppose I should just buy a Nordie, but they're a bit thin on the ground up here and I've just bought a house so zero funds.

What I do have is enough bits for a Nordie/RC600 rolling chassis and a complete TE610e - I'd like to, at least try, to build a hybrid with what I've got. If I had a Gilera motor then I'd build a Nordie/RC600 hybrid. The Husky has a great grunty motor but looks bland, a dated supermoto - the Nordwest on the other hand looks insane - my idea was to have something that combines the more modern engineering and performance of the Husq but the aesthetics of the Gilera, plus it's what I've got lying around in the garage. I've easy access to lathes, milling machine, tig etc at work so engineering and fabricating components ain't any problem, it's just where to start, and what combination of bits.
Back to the drawing board to re-assess,
Cheers
P

Don't worry I'm at least as guilty for building/restoring oddballs and specials, but I do it in the back of beyond here in Kano (we have a national strike at the moment which gives me more time to play) my perfectly harmless 500 Morini was taken apart and every rotating and reciprocating part was lightened, My RC is in my office at work to fill in idle moments, mostly early in the morning before sparrow fart, I built a twinny Mini with 2 x 1400 engines on 45DCOE Webbers, I restored abandoned Fiat Abarth 124 spyder and Panhard 24ct here in Nigeria.
You just have to keep on doing what you do best, or become a drunk or a couch potato :woohoo:
