my Saturno 500 IoM came with a NGK DPR7EA-9.

I bought a Saurno service kit which came with an NGK DP9EA-9

my bike is only 9000km from new and everthing was original including the 1988 tyres, so I suspect the plug could well be from the factory.

The IoM has a K and N pod filter instead of the airbox of the standard model. Dont know if the jetting is any different. Could this require a different heat range plug?

Initial impression after fitting the new 9 plug is the idle is not as smooth as with the 7 plug.

Any thoughts? It was certainly running very nicely with the 7 plug.........

NGK site says 500 saturno should use DPR8EA-9, so I have one of either side of that!!!!

as far as i remember the 8 is for the Saturno and the 9 for the Nordies. Or the other way round ;)
I think there is not a big difference.
Maybe you should check after a short ride.
If you can get the same type without the 'R' use this. Less resistance leaves more power for the spark ;)
But take care to have the 'P'

ciao Joachim

When I was having problems starting the 604 Nordwest in cold weather I went 'down' in heat range from a 9 to an 8 which helped. David Champion's FAQ suggests a 9 for both Nordwest and Saturno.

It may be that the 9 is oiling up a bit being a 'hard' plug. 7 seems a bit on the soft side to me. An 8 would be a happy medium.
