Quite warm here today up to about 9c so I got on with the belt change, changed oil and coolant put tank back on, new charged battery and it went after a few prods of the starter.
I'm suprised at how quickly it warmed up, in fact the fans came on after only a few minutes.
I checked the coolant level and it was fine so I let it cool down and then restarted it, the heat began on the right side of the motor and moved up the right rad and over to the left rad then into the left hand pipe, i'm assuming this is the correct flow path.
After the fans started they only ran for 30 seconds and then the temp guage fell slightly as it should.

Is this normal?

Bleed it before it blows the head gasket ;)
When the fans started, there should be everything ok with the coolant cicuit.
Also the thermostat (hope that is the word also in english) should be ok. Altough it may not open all the way.
First bleed. That's less mess

ciao Joachim

A small ammount of air in it, thanks for the advice.
It's taken about 1.3 litres to fill including the expansion tank to it's max level mark.
I suppose it's not much fluid to cool a large cylinder.
I wont be riding it until next weekend for the MOT.
What is the expected tickover rpm, I have it at around 1500 now but it goes up and down slightly.

I set my idle speed a little higher about 1700rpm
