Hi all, have cleaned carbs, may have time to fit them today, all looked pretty good. Just thinking aloud, these bikes have rev limiters don't they ? I wonder if that's my problem with the bike not running over 3k. The ignition box doesn't look like the original, and there was a short in the wiring that may have caused electrical issues.

Depends on which bike you have.
There are 2 different Nordies /RCCs out there.
Those with capacitive ignition systems have 2 black boxes. One is the ignition itself, the other the rev limiter.
Those with inductive ignition systems have only one black box. Rev limiter is integrated there.

Hi Joachim, am fairly sure mine is the capacitive system. Where would I find the box on the bike, and do you think I can just bypass it if it is suspect ?

if you found the ignition box... near by.
All the electric things are located under the righthand side panel.
If there is only one box...
To make shure which system you have you may tell us your VIN.
I think in the workshop manual you may also find this information. Older Nordies have capacitive, newer ones the inductive version.

found it ;)
Up to 228*51763 have capacitive ignitions. Higher numbers inductive.

If you have an older one. If i remember right there is printed something on the rev limiter how to bridge it.

ciao Joachim

Hi Ivor
Also if you click on the user menu "igottagilera newsletters there is an article in there about the differences between the 2 systems, well worth a read, many interesting things to be found ;)

Hi guys, thanks for all the info, (though I scrolled through all the newsletters, couldn't find the article).
Anyway, got the carbs back on, took an age to start, I think the fuel has to find it's way into the nooks and crannys. But she went, AND revs over 3k now ! Bit of a flat spot, but only did a couple of hundred yards and fuel ran out, so may just have been starvation. Filled up the tank, (took it in boot of car), and spent evening putting the bodywork on. Will give her a better try in the morning if it's not hissing down !
Cheers !

ps, got another question, but will start a new thread :-)
