It's OK to laugh but whilst I was using the rotor puller tool to force off the rotor that probably hadn't been off for decades I was using so much force and leaning over the bike that when it went all of a sudden my face went crashing down into the top frame rail and I broke my nose. You can laugh, I can't, it hurts, still. In all the blood and confusion and the passing days, I don't know if I took the crank through a full revolution, (cambelt was not connected), so now I come to fit the new cambelt although I can line up all the marks, I don't know if I'm on the firing stroke or not. Is there an easy way to tell?
And yes, I know I'm an idiot.

Ouch
Just set the the keyway for the rotor to align with the timing mark on the case (approximately 1 O'clock)
the exhaust cam mark to align with the cambox split line (at 9 O'clock)
the inlet cam mark to align with the cambox split line (at 3 O'clock)
I hope your nose and Nordie make a full recovery :)

It's always the cams that dictate the firing stroke, for the crank, tdc is tdc whatever.

Oooh! Makes me wince at the thought. Nice to see proper maintenance of the bike being done though.

They do come off with a bang sometimes!

I used to put an old plastic baker's tray in the landing zone after the first time the flywheel flew off and landed on the floor.
