Anybody experienced or have any suggestions about sticking brake calipers?
When I 1st got my Nordie here i found the bake brake could stick if you used the brakes, if you stopped and rolled the bike backwards a couple of feet it released.
I bought and fitted a new set of pistons and seals for front & rear from Uncle Bob and thinking all would be well went out for my Sunday ride thought I had some dirt in the carb as the bike slowed from about 140Km down to 100Km so with thought of if it keeps running head for home, after a couple of minutes it picked up again as nothing wrong, the next junction I slowed and thought the brake pedal had fallen off, it was sooooo long.
I cooked the new seals and my previously gold caliper is the colour of well done toast :(

Front or rear?
You have checked your brake pump too?
Some years ago i had some serious break troubble with a car. The hose was clocked.
But it was a simple rubber one, not such rocket technic like on Nordies.
I have never heard that braided brake lines will suck.

Hi Joachim,
It was the rear caliper and I cooked the seals very well.
I have ordered new seals for the caliper and master cylinder.
I have braided brake lines so don't think they can collapse.
I had the calipers stick and replace the seals recently thinking that would cue the problem.
I have refitted the old seals to make it ride able, until I get the new seals
Regards
John

Not had that on a Nordie. The YZ250 front brake was awful, but new seals cured it. Did you clean out the seal grooves well? Though I suspect grannies and eggs might apply :-)

Hi 72,
All was striped and cleaned the 1st time with new seals fitted and the 2nd time when the cooked new seals were replaced with the old seals.
Fortunately I don't use the back brake much, only for hill starts and we don't have many hills and for control in traffic and junctions, but 100 yards down the road I can feel it dragging, if I stop and leg it back half a turn of the wheel it cures it :( all a bit weird :S

I used to get some strange graunching noises at walking pace sometimes from the back brake on the hillclimb Nordwest. A bit like binding but very slight. I never ever used the back brake on that as a nice man with a chock used to do the honours for hill starts :)

The scrutineers used to comment on it occasionally. I suspected the 'floating' mounting plate might be perhaps not aligning perfectly sometimes as frequent changes to gearing meant the position along the slot got altered quite often. I found that slackening the rear spindle nut slightly with the bike on a paddock stand, then spinning the wheel, banging on the back brake hard then tightening the spindle nut with it held on sometimes helped.
