Not really a new topic of course, but I can't seem to find any guidance on how to remedy a slipping starter clutch. I'm sure I read somewhere about fitting a new garter spring around the rollers, but I'd be grateful if anyone can point me in the direction of a how-to write-up.
Thanks,
Nick

Thanks for that!
I remember the description of the process but it's good to see it demonstrated. Do we have a reference for the size of the oil-seal the garter is taken from, or is it a matter of guessing the diameter? I noticed the guy stretched the one he had somewhat. Tight enough but not too tight, presumably.
Cheers,
Nick

Sorry, can’t help on that, I had to replace the clutch mech with the KTM piece!

Good luck!

If your garter spring is too long or you have 2 that are too short they join together by screwing one end with a tapered coil inside the other normal size end.
having prized off the cover I made a steel flange about 15mm thick, with a hole matching the outside diameter of the cover to press the assembly through to close the cover back onto the body of the clutch.
Worth a try and saves buying the KTM clutch, or gives you a spare to go with the KTM clutch you just bought!!!

Thanks for the help, chaps. It seems there's a fair bit of dismantling before I can access the sprag hub, so I'll get on with that today. As it happens, I've got in stock a new sprag to fit my Cagiva Canyon which looks like its a similar size, but I'll certainly try the garter spring replacement for preference. Just for info, which KTM fitment sprag are you referring to?
