Hello folks,
Well my curiosity got the better of me this morning and I took a wee ride on my Morini to have a look at the Saturno. It's very nice, but no where near what I expected, marks and scratches on the tank, rust bubbling through on the frame, pin head rust on the stanchions, engine paint bubbling.
This paints a bad picture when it shouldn't, it's a very nice bike, clean and looked after, seems to me it's been in storage for some time and not used. It has new rubber, and a nice history file with brochures and workshop manual. My thoughts were " would I trade my Morini and money for this bike?", and the answer is an emphatic no. I think it's overpriced, as everyone seems to say. However, it is quite rare, and if I didn't already have the Morini my reaction might have been quite different?. After seeing it I must admit my lust for one has been rekindled. What a beautiful bike, probably not this one though.
Alan.

So the consensus of it being well overpriced, like 2 grand overpriced, is pretty fair then?
Sounds like a ripe one for a restoration but not at that money - did you find out where it came from, the Edinburgh area?

I think it came from the Newton St Boswals area in the borders. Not quite a restoration job, it's really not that bad, perfectly useable the way it is after doing something about the stanchions and giving it a good going over . I think your estimate of the value may be closer to the mark, but I'm no expert.

I've shown it to a few other Gileristi experts elsewhere and it's generally felt it's too much for what it is. Unless someone has the beans and really wants the bike - there's one on Car & Classic at the moment for all most £11k so it may be seen as cheap.....

Nice 350 on Flea bay at the moment at a more realistic price, but it will need a bit of money spent on it, what's the opinion about this one?. Is the 350 that much slower?.
