Another option i've decided to use is to have the original yokes bored out (1mm) to suit the WP stanchions- that way I get to keep ignition barrel and steering lock etc.
It also spaces the fork approx 5mm apart so allows a touch more disc clearance- means i'll have to use spacers after all but it's no big deal.
Also having another head tube made up out of steel to accept the original size head bearings (25mmI/D) but which will fit in the CCM bottom yoke in case of any unforseen circumstances.
315mm Dia discs being made up with Nordie 10 bobbin centres by the Disc Doctors in Sheffield which i'm looking forward to seeing next week hopefully.
1 week lead time for both...........(I bet it's longer though) :woohoo:

Well having waited for over a month, the brake discs showed up today from The Disc Doctor-Sheffield. They did a very good job-perfect fit and it looks very nice. However I should have received them some time ago and have been arsed about and ignored!!
All I have left to do (apart from fitting the front end on the bike!) is to figure out how I'm going to fit the mudguard as CCM and KTM use slider protectors and a high level mudguard. I prefer the Nordie/Duke type low level mudguard but this particular fork does not have the additional castings to mount.
And I've somehow got to lock the speedo drive in position on the RH fork leg.Of course I also have to find the time to work on the bike too.
Here's a top tip then- If you fancy going for this front end swap, go for the KTM Duke 2 type of fork which does not have the front axle ahead of the stanchion and has the mudguard mount castings.
You can keep the Gilera top and bottom yokes by having the bores taken out to suit (54 and 52mm) that way you get to keep the steering lock and lockstops and handlebar risers. HOWEVER these yokes will place the stanchions further apart than the CCM/KTM yokes necessitating a spacer on the spindle (5mm).
I had a head tube made up for the CCM yokes to suit the Gilera head bearings just in case but may not actually need it.
More info will follow when I get the chance to work the bike.
Cheers for now........

Sounds like a 'bitza' conversion worth the effort though as I remember my Nordwest forks being pretty naff on high speed bumpy bends. I'll be interested to hear how it copes with such going when you get it on the road.

I'm just about to have the travel of the forks and rear unit 'shortened' on my YZ250 speed hill climber about 2 inches to match the YZ450F. Though it is good to have all that MX travel on really rough tarmac like the top of Hartland Quay I much prefer the 450 ride height as it makes it easier to start for one thing :)

Refurbished while Revs have them apart and will be asking them about valving and spring rates for 100% tarmac use. Though as I'll be sharing them with the lad who is much quicker but lighter than me it is always going to be a compromise.

Maybe there should be a 'sticky' or a subsection on the forum to act as a database for modifications, not just for Nordies but parts interchangeability between models - that way the learning experiences and tips picked up by the pioneers can be passed on.

Sounds like a fruitful but frustrating conversion Moggyvan, post photos if you can.

John, I'll ping you an email as I'd like a gander at the RC600 too.

Good idea. There is already a 'Pattern Parts Page' on the site but it wasn't that obvious so I've added a link from the 'User Menu'.

When I find a round tuit I'll create a new Forum category for 'Modifications'. I can offer my CR smoothbore fitting tips if I can remember all the dodges Stoppie Windys advised 15 years ago ;)

Keen contributors could also be granted authoring rights for a dedicated 'what fits what' page, though a spreadsheet is often best for that. There's an excellent one on the net somewhere for YZs prepared by a breaker in the USA.
