Nick, just been and looked at spindle. Normal external thread on LHS, but strangely what looks like a "home done" internal thread (M8). I don't know why. Maybe somebody had a wheel spindle loosen. An M8 with washer there would provide "belt and braces", as will the M6 long threaded stud. I will mull this over, but lose no sleep over it.
Cheers, Les.

Earlier in this thread I reported on finding a 10,000 UFd capacitor. No replies gave any info.
Anyway, I have found out a little more. Firstly I now know mine has inductive ignition, and this capacitor, together with one diode, sits between two connectors such that it is an "add on" to the original circuit. It appears in the circuit under reference no. 39 with the description "Cable with diode and condenser for starting anti-stroke". This is (a sort of) translation of "Convetto con dioda e condensatore per anticontracctolpo avviamento", but as I speak no italian, I am no wiser. Would anybody care to comment further? It is in the feed to the ignition module.
My best guess is that this is simply a large capacitor which charges to 12v when ignition is switched on, to ensure adequate voltage for certainty of ignition. The diode is to prevent charge feeding back to the battery when the voltage drops during cranking. Again, any comments?
Changing the subject, my rubber manifold between air filter and carbs appears to be a mass of sticky tape and little else. I think I need a new one Are there any available, if so where from, and what is the cost?
Thanks, Les.

Les,
The electronic questions are outside my experience, but I've been round the air-box trunking thing. They are very tricky to get in or out but at least mine are intact, except where they attach to the carbs, where they are split like the petals of a flower. Being almost impossible to get them back on, I looked into pod filters instead, but space is restricted if the battery stays where it should be. I've seen for-sale bikes where the battery has been placed where the airbox was and pod filters fitted. My current solution was to graft the rubber stub from one pod filter onto the trunking, using Stormsure flexible PU cement, and re-instate the OEM air intake. I've used Stormsure for many rubber repairs and you may be able to repair your trunking with it, if you can't find a replacement.
You asked previously about a chain-guard, and I think I can part with my spare, though you'll need to make the supporting bracket if yours has gone.
Nick

Thanks Nick. I will contact you off list about the chain guard.
I am not much for pod filters, but if no other solution, maybe. There is so much tape around the existing trunking I am loath to touch it without a certain solution.
Maybe somebody else knows of a source for an original?
ANYBODY?
Les.

Bob Wright. Again, his contact is on a list of useful links on the technical area of the forum.

Bruno, thanks for reply. However, i emailed him this morning and his reply was "Sorry, just sold my last one".
Did I read somewhere that somebody was making some, or was it something else.
Les.
