The perfect engine?

Maybe with an extra 25bhp...

the 750 dakar racer had a reputed 75bhp and the GB1 supermono was expected to produce with development and fuel injection 90bhp, with stronger crank cases its posible ;) not a job for my local casting man

Well, photos I promised but sadly the Nordwest is still in the shed. The starter clutch arrived last night and with trepidation I installed it, attempted a trial run and ... still the same!!! I think I was right originally, it is the starter motor which I had a local auto electrician check, repair and charge me a princely sum for. I am not a happy chappy!!!
Does anyone know if the early RC600 starter fits the '94 Nordwest, the end (alloy) housing is shaped differently but if it is the same I will throw the one of the RC on to try it.
The Nordwest definitely turns slower that the RC so I am reasonably confident in my earlier diagnosis. I should have gone with it then.
By the way, the KTM free wheel clutch fits perfectly.

the electrical motor is always the same. So no problem with that.

The later models (Nordie, RC/C, RCR) have an extra slip clutch added. The earlier ones (Saturno, XRT, Dakota, RC...) not.
You can see this on the righthand side.
There is an extra lengt of the case to see.
For a simple test it will be ok to switch the complete RC starter engine to your Nordie.
But be carefull. Don't touch the starter button while your Bi4 engine is turning.
Maybe your starter engine will flew away :S
I knew about 2 Gileristi who had this 'little' problem.

Thank you. I thought it might fit but was not sure about the extra bit on the case. Unfortunately the hardest hex head bolt to get at under the exhaust on the RC has been butchered and is in poor condition, and over tightened so it is a mission to get out (blood running down my arm to prove it), so at this point I am going back to plan A which is have a look in side the Nordwest starter myself to see what is wrong. It was turning over too slow in my opinion, almost sounding like a half flat battery or like it was binding up slightly. Definitely slower than the RC starter. I shouldn't have listened to the "expert" :(

Hi Kiwi,
I had a few of those impossible to remove bolts, ended up shearing them off and having to drill them out and re-tap the threads grrr
Perseverance wins in the end!!
