Hello all, well with brilliant help on here from joachim, I believe this old nordwest I have is in theory good to go, so I turned her over... still no spark, I put my meter on volts at the plug... around 55 - 50 mv on cranking, then again where the blue and white wire connects to the coil, around 55 to 60 mv on cranking. so, is this the right ammount of voltage to enter the ign coil ? if so I would expect more to come out of the coil on the plug side... ie:20,00 volts dc, but im just not smart enough to be sure. my thanks.

update, I took the coil off and with my meter on ohms, I he thru the coil, lucar connector to plug lead 9.55 k ohms, but on the lucar connector to grounf I have circuit with no resistance...

hmmm, read the manual, I should have 13 k ohms between input terminal and output lead and a 4 ohm input terminal to ground... so the search is on for a coil I think ?

It's getting mysterious....

I think you know about the different values for both the ignition systems ;)

13.8kOhm secondary coil and abou 4Ohms primary coil are the datas for he inductive system.
With a standard Ohmmeter it's not easy to measure the 4 Ohms
Maybe you will get something like 0 Ohm.

The capacitive ignition system should have 9,2kOhm and 0.2 to 0.3 Ohm (your gauge may show 0 Ohm) primary side.
At least that's what Luigis workshop manual is teling.
So maybe you did not only have a inductive flywheel installed.
Have you checked back the VIN i gave to you?
Not someone has mounted a inductive black box on a capacitive system :(

Did you have a pic of the coil.
The 2 kinds of coils look rather different.

ciao Joachim

Hiya, I hav been doing some dectective work too and manual reading too, my meter showing 0 instead of 4 ohms suggests the primary winding has failed, the secondary winding checks out at 9.5 k ohms, there should be that 2-4 ohm resistance and its a good digital meter I use, the coil denso number is 129700 2350, so it suggests its the CDI ignition all the way thru, along with all the other parts. ie: achims rotor, the pick up, cdi box p/n 070000-1981 and the little black regulator box 946975, p/n 070530-0030, I wont be beaten !

maybe i am confused.....

About 4 Ohms and 13.8kOhms should be a inductive coil.
You have a capacitive system, didn't you?
????
Did you coil look like the one on the pic?
This one is marked Nippon Denso 129700 - 2960
It should be the one from my Nordie which is inductive for shure.
The capacitivecoil did somehow look like the one for the Saturno (which is also capacitive)
If i remeber right this one only has *one*
of this spade contacts for a wire.
The ground connection is done by the metal frame.

the pic you have sent is the right coil for the CDI system.
Although it looks somehow... crapy ;)
As said before, the 0.something ohms are not that easy to measure.
The smallest range of most digital meters is 200Ohms.
So with about 1% failure (what's not bad) we are talking about +-2Ohms, so....
But if you have/can find a replacement coil, it might be the fastest way to build this in and check again for sparks.
Yamaha XT550 and 660 should fit. At least that's what i found in the french and an italian forum ;)

I have just schecked the wiring shemes.
I thought the pick ups of both ignition systems are the same. That's wrong ;)
Your CDI has 3 wires and uses both pick ups include din the case and therefore the flywheel has 2 rows of 'noses'.
The indictive pick up is the same, but it uses only one pick up.
It has only 2 wires at the upper end.
Yo ucan see 3 at the pickup itself, but Luigi has cut one of the wires somewhere in the boogie tube.
Things are getting clear step by step :)))
