So the new seal is a bit different. The contact cicumference area is slightly less ( 2mm wide band verses 3mm)
Its also 3mm higher, and the spring tension is weaker.....the original is quite hard to compress with your hands.
So,with reference to Joachims concerns about too much pressure on the wearing faces, I don't think it will be an issue with this particular seal.
The Seal shop man said it was a "Cyclone" seal from France, but agreed it was probably sourced in China. No markings on it.
It fits ok so I will give it a go.
The shaft is a little worn so I will see about turning another one in Stainless 316. Not sure its the best choice but its readily available and I should be able to do it on the shit lathe at work.
Might get a quote on getting some cnc.ed.
Its hard to know what the original shaft is made from. Could be just tempered silver steel.
Doesn't really need to be "rust proof" if the seal is doing its job

Hi Folks,
Great to actually see the seal, i've had no idea what it looked like. Mine will be coming apart soon, I have another bike on the ramp and I don't like having more than one bike in bits at a time.
Looking forward to hearing how Joachim gets on with his seals.
Alan.

It should be possible to fit the ceramic seal in the pemopa pump, but it would mean a new shaft.
The 3mm parallel key which locates the impellor would interferr with the seal.
A shorter key slot and key would fix that.
Everything else seems to be the same dimensions for fitting the seal into the housing.

I heated the shaft to 120*c and could not measure any expansion in diameter. I think I will have to make a new shaft for both pumps, as the bearings are too loose a fit, and spin on shaft, instead of bearing itself turning. I could assemble them with loctite bearing fit, but would rather start with a good fit.

The ceramic seal is not relying on sealing against a spinning shaft, which is a big advantage over the rotary seal in the pemopa pump (IMHO)

the sealings have arrived ;)

The new Burgmann sealing is about 0,5mm longer as the original one.
That's perfect i think :)
The contact surface is smaller than the one from the original, but that was the same at the older, longer Burgmann one

Burgmann parts number:

the mechanical sealing itself
SU07_PR/AR 12 C 70300020_37129BA0

the counter ring with the rubber
SU08_PF C 26x12x5,5_37986BA0

Price was about 41Euro for one set :(
Last time i only payed about half of that, but without any receipt and payed cash ;)
Bought them direct from Burgmann service, so i would be interested in a price if one of you will buy from a local trader.

ciao Joachim

I've finished disassembling my water pump and it's in a very sorry state

- Both bearings are completely stuffed and fell apart
- The circlip is broken
- The washer is bent
- The seal is stuffed
- And the shaft is badly worn.

The lower bearing race is still stuck in the housing at the moment so it's not going to be a small job!

Mike
