I've finished rebuilding the pump and should have the bike back on the road in a week's time.

I had no real issues with the rebuild but I will say that the Burgmann BT-AR 12C seal requires a tad more clearance than the original so keep an eye on it when pressing on the impeller.

My cam belt pulley is also slightly out of square. There's around a 10 thou wobble at the base of it when it's rotated. I don't think it will be a problem but I'll run the bike without the cover for a few miles to make sure.

Hi Mike

Nice work, it is more than possible to refurbish the pumps, we just need to apply a little time and a little finesse. We cant keep smashing them, we need to be more informed and less brutal.

How much use does your Saturno get. How many miles do you do a year?

Hopefully you wont have to touch it again!

Well done Mate.

Cheers Pete.

Hi Pete,
I've had mine for just over a year now and put around 3000ks on it so far. Just after I bought it I was riding it every weekend and doing around 160ks a day on it. It's hard work on that seat I can tell you :)

My Saturno 350 is finally back on the road :)

And one more problem...
I had an issue with the cam belt pump pulley coming loose after I turned the engine over by hand. On investigation I discovered that the pulley center is now a bit oval which was possibly caused by the pump failure.

I fixed this by loctiting it on and tapping a hole for a retaining screw and washer on the end of the shaft. Clearance with the cam belt cover maybe an issue after doing this so be mindful of it.

Finally the 10 thou run out on the cam belt pump pulley doesn't seem to be a problem. There appears to be no sideways oscillation of the belt when running.

Hi Folks,
Just assembled my water pump, and I followed Mikes advice about fitting the impellor flush with the end of the shaft, ( thanks Mike) quite a lot of force exerted by the spring. Any comments before I fit the pump back to the enginet? It is slightly tighter to turn, and this is because of the spring force. I used the slightly thicker seal.

I discovered that the most important factor in installing the seal was to make sure that it was within it's operational length when the spring is compressed. The Burgmann BT-AR 12C seal needed between 11 - 11.5mm for the rotating part of the seal and there was just over 11mm available when I measured the available space above the ceramic stationary seal. A longer seal may be a bit tight in there. My pump turned over freely once the seal was installed but you could feel a bit more friction. On my Burgmann seal you can see roughly 3/4 of a coil of the spring between the impeller and the seal. If you can't see the spring at all I'd suspect it may be a bit tight.
