Our "cold" season seems to have finished, 37c forecast for this afternoon and will just keep rising till the rains start in the end of June :S :S

Mine was a Saturno motor with Nordwest barrel and piston, RC600 valves and gasflowed inlet-pulled like a train once it was revving-but like yours didn't like being held up in traffic-then it got hot....

You know about the 2 extra holes in the 600ccm head gasket when mounting it on a 500cc head?
Ignoring this ends up i a overheating problem... for shure!

Hi Joachim, he did say Nordie barrels with RC head, so if using Nordie/RC gaskets all is OK

my Saturno is similar, modified Nordie engine with keihin Cr carbs running no fan when in the UK, i chose to fit a fan here in Kano as its quite a bit warmer than Scotland when mine originated ;)

The piddling was because it was also lacking an expansion tank. The fan switch was wired to a flashing LED in a prominent position so you at least knew when the fan would have been running if it still had one. Worst case scenario was getting held up at traffic lights coming back in to town after a warm day having a spirited canter on open roads. The first set would bring on just the flashing LED but the next set, if soon after, would lead to a wet boot.

My highly tuned YZ450F never had a fan and would start to boil if just kept waiting on the start line at a hill climb for too long on a hot day (no way I was going to kill the engine as it was a pig to start when hot). I rigged up a small catch bottle on the rad overflow so as not alarm the start line marshals.
